THE ODDBALL COUPLE

(DePatie-Freleng)
September 6, 1975 - September 3, 1977 ABC-TV

The Oddball Couple was an animated version of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple. The Odd Couple was a play that was turned into a movie, and then was turned into a TV show. In this cartoon version, Felix Unger and Oscar Madison were replaced by an orderly cat named Spiffy and a messy dog named Fleabag.

The cartoon premiered on ABC-TV the same year that the prime time Odd Couple series went off the air. In the cartoon, Spiffy and Fleabag worked as freelance reporters. The two opposites shared an office together, along with their secretary Goldie. They were also roommates who shared a home that was 50% spotless and 50% filthy.

The animated adventures of the mismatched canine duo weren't as successful as their live-action counterpart, and The Oddball Couple left the air after two seasons.
